Group purchasing for Florida practices

Florida has one of the country's most active value-based care landscapes, with independent practices, federally qualified health centers, and clinically integrated networks all carrying some form of shared savings or quality risk. That risk is real, and supply cost is one of the few levers a network can pull without changing how patients are treated.

One Harbor Alliance reaches Florida members through FLAACOs, the Florida Association of ACOs. The relationship gives Florida practices a direct path into national contract pricing without requiring them to join a larger system or change their existing distributor relationships.

What changes for a Florida network

Most Florida networks already include practices the organization does not own. That structure is the whole point of an ACO or a CIN: independent providers collaborating on cost and quality without giving up their autonomy. But most purchasing programs price the network on what it owns, which leaves the independent majority buying at retail.

One Harbor counts the whole network as one buyer. Owned practices, independent practices, and FQHCs all reach the same contract pricing under one membership agreement. The ordering process does not change. The invoice does.

Categories that matter in Florida

Florida's practice mix makes vaccines, biologics, and point of care testing especially important. These are high-volume, high-front-cost categories where a small change in acquisition price has an outsized effect on margin. They are also categories most practices have never had procurement staff to negotiate.

The same is true for medical and surgical supplies, laboratory services, and the business services that run underneath a multi-site operation. Each line is addressable on its own, and none requires a system affiliation.

For networks carrying Medicare Shared Savings Program risk, clinical performance categories matter too. One Harbor Performance brings contracted vendors for heart failure detection, remote monitoring, documentation support, behavioral health, and other measures that show up directly in contract scoring.

Both divisions run through the same FLAACOs channel, so a member can start with purchasing and add performance work when the data shows where the gaps are.

Start with a question

If your Florida network is part of FLAACOs, ask what your current purchasing arrangement actually covers for the independent practices you are accountable for.
